Five major development directions for optical plastics

<

The development of optical plastics has received attention from all countries. In view of the shortcomings of current optical plastics, the future development direction is:

(1) Increasing heat resistance temperature

At present, the heat resistance temperature of plastic lenses is generally low, especially the most commonly used PMMA heat distortion temperature is 75~80 °C, which limits the application range. If the heat distortion temperature can reach 100~150 °C, many fields can be Applying a plastic lens;

(2) Improve moisture resistance

Optical plastics generally have water absorption, which greatly affects optical properties. Therefore, it is extremely important to reduce water absorption.

(3) Reduce birefringence

The polymer material family has birefringence problems, which are related to the molar amount, morphology, density, molecular orientation during molding, and internal stress. Generally, optical materials require no birefringence, so it is expected to develop a plastic with small birefringence.

(iv) Development of high refractive index plastics

The refractive index of the optical plastic materials currently available is less than 1,6, the variety is small, and the choice is small, and the larger the refractive index of the lens, the easier the aberration correction is, and the more the performance of the lens is improved. Research on high refractive index optical plastics has at least 1.6.

(5) Research on plastic molding process

Different optical plastics, molded lenses, and aspherical methods are different, especially the shaping of prisms, which is rarely studied. The study of high-precision parts is almost blank. Therefore, research on molding processes should be vigorously carried out in the future.
