The anti-lock brake system (ABS) is one of the most important inventions in automotive safety electronics products in the last century. It is understood that 70% of the world's cars are equipped with ABS. Chinese enterprises began to study ABS from the 1980s. For a long time, foreign brands have dominated the domestic ABS market. But now this situation is being broken.

In the past, domestic ABS production companies were small in scale, small in supporting quantities, and less mature in technology. So far, only one company in Zhejiang Asia Pacific has produced qualified ABS products, and there are more than 100,000 sales per year. On the contrary, foreign ABS technology has been very mature and China is still in the early stages of development. With the batch and scale support in foreign countries, the cost of ABS for multinational companies is lower than that of domestic companies. The cost of domestic production of a set of ABS is about 800 yuan. At present, most companies can only enter the supporting system of their own brand cars. The quotations offered by multinational companies to self-owned brand automakers have dropped to 500-600 yuan, which has caused great pressure on domestic companies.

At present, most of the companies with relatively good ABS product research and development in China are private enterprises. These privately-owned enterprises have a large gap between their own capital accumulation and technology accumulation and foreign brands. Therefore, in the process of independent research and development, they will encounter many difficulties. They can continue to invest in ABS products, require considerable capital and the ability to grasp the market. Prof. Fang Yonglong revealed to reporters that even on ABS products, some manufacturers still need to import key components from abroad. Domestic auto companies, especially passenger car companies, have doubts about the performance stability of domestic brands, making foreign brands still occupy major markets.

It is predicted that by 2010, the total demand for automotive ABS in China will exceed 6 million units, and the average annual growth rate of the market will exceed 30% in the next few years. To promote the development of China's automotive ABS industry, on the one hand, the government must strengthen guidance; on the other hand, companies need to improve their technological development capabilities and product quality, as well as publicity and promotion efforts.

At present, compared to vehicle procurement, the government has little support for the purchase of self-owned brands of auto parts and components. The first is that there are few companies producing core parts in China, and the scale is small and has not yet reached scale. In terms of ABS industry, the pace of industrialization of self-owned brand ABS should be accelerated. The matching degree of self-owned brand ABS with the whole vehicle will be higher and higher in the future, and parts companies and vehicle manufacturers should jointly develop products and form a complete supporting system.
