On July 22, the opening ceremony of China Automotive Material Data System (CAMDS) was held in Beijing. The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, and major domestic automobile companies The relevant personnel attended the opening ceremony.

The China Automotive Material Data System (CAMDS) is led by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center and has 15 automobile manufacturers in the joint industry (including FAW Group, SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC, Changfeng, Chang'an, Great Wall, Dongfeng Limited, Dongfeng, and Beiqi. Futian, Brilliance Jinbei, Geely, Chery, Changhe, Hafei, and Shenlong were jointly developed and built.

Zhang Jianwei, deputy director of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, said that CAMDS is a product data management platform specifically developed for the implementation of automotive product recycling and banned/restricted substance management, which will improve the recycling of automotive products in China. The company realizes the information management of the material data of all levels of products in the parts supply chain. With this system, component suppliers can complete the filling and submission of parts and product material information, and depending on the needs of the entire vehicle company, record the parts' materials, recyclability, use of prohibited/restricted substances and basic substances. Vehicles and parts companies can use this platform to collect and compile information on parts and components, and based on this data, they can complete tracking and analysis of the recycling of finished vehicles and parts and the use of prohibited substances.

According to the person in charge of the secretariat of the CAMDS Management Committee, the material data system currently being used by more than 20 automotive manufacturers in the world is mainly the International Material Data System (IMDS). It started construction in 1997 and was officially put into use in 2001. In order to establish a material data system with China's own characteristics and to protect the long-term interests of the Chinese automobile industry and Chinese automobile manufacturers, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center took the lead in cooperating with 15 auto manufacturers, after more than two years of research, investigation and demonstration. Finally, they jointly invested in CAMDS. The formal development of the system began in November 2007 and was completed in July 2009. It took 18 months. Now, the various functions of CAMDS have been able to meet the needs of use, and have the conditions for going online.

Li Wanli, Director of Industry Policy Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated: “In January 2007, European Union governments have fully implemented new instructions for scrapped automobiles. China also promulgated the “Recycling and Utilization Technology Policy for Automotive Products” in February 2006, which proposes points for automotive products. The first phase of the recycling and utilization of material use management requirements for prohibition. As the first automotive material data interaction and management system, CAMDS will become China's implementation of automotive product recycling and forbidden use of material management, improve the recovery of automotive product materials An important supporting platform for utilization.” He hoped that with the gradual improvement of the standards and regulations, it is necessary to explore the feasibility of gradually integrating the CAMDS with the management of the product announcement system of automobile manufacturers.
