Chicago Still & Box alarm fire, 1-2-18 (more)

<

This is from Steve Redick:

It was a very cold day, with temperatures in the single digits. When I got the call, companies had already arrived on scene and reported what I initially thought was a kitchen fire that had extended into concealed spaces. I arrived about 10 minutes after the initial dispatch, and by then, the crews had already been ordered out of the building. It was interesting to watch the small wheelbase snorkel unit maneuver into a tight space at the front of the structure. The area was surrounded by large trees, which made it extremely difficult for any aerial apparatus to gain access. It was definitely a tough situation for everyone involved.
