Automotive headlamps, commonly known as "headlights," can be said to be equivalent to the eyes of cars because they are responsible for nighttime lighting. As the saying goes, "The eyes are the windows of the soul." It can be seen that it is important. Everyone knows that the love of the eyes must be done from time to time. The same applies to the maintenance of headlights.
The first move of "eye care": Do not use inferior light bulbs.
The "soul" of a headlight is its light bulb, and its performance will affect the effect of night lighting and is directly related to traffic safety. Therefore, high-quality headlamp bulbs should be used to fully ensure safety. What are the dangers of using a poor light bulb? First of all, nature is the short life of poor quality bulbs, which cannot guarantee stable quality. Secondly, high-quality light bulbs have good light distribution and high brightness, while poor-quality light bulbs have insufficient brightness, focus is not concentrated, and the range is near. In overtaking, the driver will experience optical illusions and be prone to accidents. In addition, poor quality lamps and lanterns are not sealed tightly, and it is easy to enter the water in rainy days or during car washing. This can cause fog in the lamp and, in severe cases, cause short circuit fires. Therefore, do not consider poor light bulbs when self-adjusting the headlamps or when they need to be replaced.
The second move of "eye care": daily maintenance should be done well.
According to different lighting principles, headlight bulbs can be divided into vacuum lamps, halogen lamps, and xenon lamps. Vacuum lamps and halogen lamps are inexpensive and commonly used, but they have a short life span, typically a few hundred hours. Xenon lamp life can reach 2500 ~ 3000 hours, and the lighting effect is better, but the price is higher. Of course, regardless of the type of light bulb, basic maintenance knowledge is similar.
The headlight bulbs also need to be replaced on a regular basis, as are oil filters that need to be replaced during regular maintenance. Generally speaking, for every 50,000 kilometers or 2 years, the brightness of the headlight bulb will be weakened. At this time, it is best to go to the 4S shop for inspection. If there is indeed a lack of brightness, it is recommended to replace the bulb, and recommend both the left and right sides at the same time. Replace it so as not to have the same brightness on both sides. I just didn't replace it in time after the brightness of the light bulb weakened, resulting in wasted time for the annual inspection.
There is also a case where the brightness of the light is weakened. Due to the influence of the environment, the lamp shade is deteriorated, and the headlight brightness is also reduced to more than 50%. Dirty and aging lampshades will also make the light blurred, causing people to have dizziness. Therefore, the lampshades must be replaced in time.
The third measure of "eye care" is to adjust the headlights yourself.
When the vehicle is in annual inspection, it will detect whether the light beam position is correct. The correct beam position will make the vision more clear and the driving will be safer. In fact, when there is a problem with the lights, it is not necessary to go to the 4S store to make adjustments. It is also easy and fun to do it yourself.
The first step is to choose a dim environment, such as an underground parking lot or at night, park the front end against a wall. The front and the wall should be aligned as close as possible, about 5 to 6 meters apart;
In the second step, turn on the lights, cover a light with an opaque thick cloth and adjust each headlight individually. In order to ensure that the light beam position is in the normal driving position, it is better not to leave the vehicle empty. You can find a friend sitting in the driver's seat.
The third step is to mark the lights in the center of the wall light range with a marker or chalk, and at the same time, make a mark at the wall corresponding to the location of the car mark (front center).
Measure the distance between the lamp marks on the two sides and the center position separately. The two distances should be equal. If there is a phenomenon of outward or inward deviation, you should look at the vehicle instruction manual, use a screwdriver to finely adjust, so that the position of the two lights is symmetrical;
The fourth step is to adjust the height of the beam. The right side headlights should be completely horizontal and the left headlights should be adjusted upward by about 10cm, but do not turn them too high to avoid the lights coming directly to the driver’s eyes. The right-hand headlights can be shifted to the right to increase the visibility of the right side of the vehicle.
The whole process is about 15-20 minutes and it's very easy.
What happens to the original headlights with fog?
It should be noted that sometimes even the original headlights will have fog. This may be because a small amount of humid air enters the interior of the headlamp from the heat dissipation channel and condenses on the wall of the lampshade due to temperature differences. At this point, as long as the light is on for about 10 minutes, the fog will disappear and it is normal. However, if a large amount of water mist or even water droplets are often present and cannot be eliminated by turning on the lights, check the headlight's tightness. No matter what the appearance of the water vapor inside the lamp, do not use the lamp outside the heating method to eliminate, otherwise it is likely to cause irreparable damage.
Light bulbs are not as expensive as possible
Note that the lamp replacement is not as expensive as possible. You should select the model that suits your car model. In addition, the conversion of the xenon lamp has stringent requirements for the lighting system circuit and cannot be easily done. If the problem arises from the modification of the vehicle due to the self-ignition of the vehicle, the insurance company will not be compensated!
Not all lights can be adjusted
Note that it is best not to adjust the headlights of luxury cars. In addition, the headlights of some vehicles follow the steering function, so do not try to adjust them yourself.
