Inventory of new chromatographs and spectrometers developed in April

<

[ China Instrument Network Instrument Development ] In the face of the urgency of market and economic development, all levels of technology are constantly improving. Chromatographs and spectrometers have always been the focus of research and development as an important analytical instrument. In the past April, many R&D institutions and social organizations have developed new types of chromatographic and spectroscopic instruments.

Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences: Surface Acoustic Wave Gas Chromatography

He Shitang, a researcher at the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, completed the development of surface acoustic wave gas chromatography, broke the monopoly of foreign countries, and realized the localization of such instruments.
SAW gas chromatography is an organic gas analyzer based on the combination of surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor and gas chromatography. It has high sensitivity, fast column heating rate (about 20 °C per second), small volume, and can realize trace amounts. Gas broad-spectrum (volatile and semi-volatile organics), rapid (within 5 minutes), and high-sensitivity (ppb-ppt) on-site analysis have broad application prospects in public safety, environmental monitoring, food and drug testing.
During the development of the instrument, He Shitang's team calculated the instrument's lower limit of quality detection and designed the instrument's core component SAW detector and analyzed the sensitivity of different areas of the SAW detector surface. Based on the analysis results, the detector and detection were optimized. The connection parameters of the instrument and the separation system, design enrichment and chromatographic separation systems, surface acoustic wave detection systems, numerical control systems and auxiliary systems, etc., and reduce the detection limit of the prototype to that of similar foreign instruments. Half, equivalent to double the performance.
Microsoft "Innovation Cup": Handheld Intelligent Spectrometer
In the 2018 Microsoft "Innovation Cup" Finals in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, the handheld smart spectrometer developed by the 98k Squad won the championship.
The spectrum is the same as each person's unique fingerprint, so the differences in the characteristic line (fingerprint) of the corresponding food can be analyzed and identified by its composition, nature, and status. The pork that has been put for a day and the pork that has been put for several days have different spectra. The spectrum of fresh oil and cooking oil is also different.
The 98k squad uses this principle to upgrade the database of things samples and expand the types of foods detected by the spectrometer. At the same time, the efficiency of the detection is improved, and the spectral detection is not only non-destructive, but also results directly. In terms of energy, the R&D team switched to the USB port of the mobile phone, which is more of a civilian preference. At present, the 98k squad has completed the test of the poisonous floss and pollen samples through a spectrometer, and is undergoing tests for pork deterioration and waste oil.
US Scientist: Mid-infrared dual-frequency comb laser spectrometer for monitoring gas leakage
Recently, an independent research team in Boulder, Colorado, announced two new technologies that use laser frequency combs to detect natural gas leaks. This technology not only provides real-time gas concentration sensitivity but also determines the location of the leak.
With the changes in the global energy consumption structure, natural gas as a clean low-carbon energy has been promoted and used by more and more countries. However, with the aging of natural gas pipelines and equipment, natural gas leakage has become a major issue in the energy industry.
The team established a monitoring system in which multiple laser sources can be strategically deployed around a natural gas production site. All laser sources point to a mid-infrared spectrometer at the center of the site. When the system's detection data is combined with the atmospheric model, a real-time gas concentration sensitivity index can be provided based on the dual-frequency comb-like absorption spectrum generated when the leaked gas passes through the beam path. At the same time, the location of the leak can be determined based on the distribution characteristics of the system.
