Precision CNC turning is a manufacturing process that involves the use of computer-controlled machines to create custom components and parts. The process involves the use of lathes, which are machines that rotate a workpiece while a cutting tool removes material from the surface of the part. The CNC (computer numerical control) aspect of the process allows for precise and repeatable cuts to be made, resulting in highly accurate parts. Precision CNC turning is used to create a wide range of parts, including those with complex geometries and tight tolerances. The process is often used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and electronics, where high-quality and precise components are essential. The advantages of precision CNC turning include the ability to produce parts with high accuracy and consistency, reduced waste and scrap, and increased efficiency and productivity. The process also allows for the creation of intricate and complex parts that would be difficult or impossible to produce using traditional machining methods. In summary, precision CNC turning is a highly advanced manufacturing process that utilizes computer-controlled machines to create custom parts with exceptional accuracy and precision. It is a critical process in many industries that require high-quality and precise components for their products. North Maine Fire District updates
Larry Shapiro recently paid a visit to the North Maine Fire District to capture some images of Engine 1, their 1992 Pierce Arrow model that underwent a recent refurbishment by Alexis Fire Apparatus. The truck now sports a fresh look with several upgrades, making it stand out even more.
In one of the photos, you can see the officer’s side of Engine 1, where new high-side compartments have been installed. There’s also a hydraulic ladder rack and stylish black and red chevron striping. Larry Shapiro captured this impressive transformation perfectly.
Another shot highlights the innovative top-access compartments added to Engine 1, along with an extended front bumper and intake. These updates complement the new striping and a sleek black roof, giving the vehicle a modern yet classic feel. Larry Shapiro once again managed to highlight these details beautifully.
For those interested in the history of the fire district, there’s a nostalgic image of Engine 1 from when it was first delivered in 1992. This marked their second Pierce Arrow engine, and the photo captures the initial excitement surrounding its arrival. Larry Shapiro’s collection includes this memorable moment, offering a glimpse into the past.
Interestingly, the district’s first Pierce Arrow engine, Engine 1, was acquired back in 1985. This particular truck later found a new home with the Beach Park FPD in 2003 after serving North Maine faithfully for many years. Larry Shapiro’s collection also features this earlier model, providing context to the evolution of their fleet.
Adding a touch of pride and identity, the North Maine Fire District has introduced a new decal to their apparatus. This decal is inspired by a challenge coin they created years ago and reflects the new black and gold color scheme that Engine 1 now proudly displays. A related image showcases this decal, which is becoming a distinctive feature across all their vehicles.
If you’re curious about the district’s insignia, there’s more to explore. Their website now features a dedicated page highlighting the new decal and several commemorative patches. To check them out, simply click on the "Company Patches" link at the top of the North Maine Fire District page. It’s always exciting to see how emergency services express their heritage and pride through such symbolic designs.
