When steam transitions into liquid form, it must exit the coil without delay. If it doesn’t, the condensed liquid inside the tubes could freeze over time. We all know what happens when water freezes—it expands, potentially causing the coils to burst.

In recreating this specific coil design, one critical aspect was ensuring the return header was sloped downward. Gravity would then assist in draining out the condensate naturally.

Under normal conditions, full steam pressure should be enough to expel the condensate from the coil. However, if the system operates at half capacity or lower pressures, the sloped header becomes crucial for efficient drainage.
