Working fire in Des Plaines, 7-26-20
From Max Weingardt
I just witnessed a working fire over on 459 Good Avenue. The flames were really intense, and I could see the smoke from several blocks away. It’s definitely one of those situations where you realize how quickly things can spiral out of control.
Check out these photos I snapped while it was still going on. The first image shows some of the Des Plaines firefighters in action. They were doing their best to contain the situation, but fires like this tend to move fast.

The next shot is of a fire truck and an ambulance nearby. You can tell they’re ready for anything, but unfortunately, situations like these remind us how unpredictable emergencies can be.

After the blaze was under control, I walked around a bit to get some shots of the aftermath. It’s always heartbreaking to see what remains after something like this happens.

Finally, here’s a picture of a Spartan fire engine with its lines off. Even when everything seems calm, there’s still a sense of urgency—you can feel it in the air.

This whole thing happened so suddenly, and it’s a stark reminder of how important it is to stay prepared. Let’s hope everyone involved is safe and that recovery efforts go smoothly.

I’ll keep an eye out for updates as they come in. If you know anyone affected by this, make sure to reach out and offer your support. It’s the least we can do during moments like these.
