Chicago Still Alarm fire 8-24-13
From San Shevlin’s report:
At around 0615 hours on August 24th, 2013, I received a call about a structure fire in the 5300 block of South Shields. When I arrived, there was visible smoke coming from the north side of a one-and-a-half-story building. The initial report indicated that the fire had started within the walls and had spread into the attic. By the time I got there, firefighters from Engine 84, along with support from other companies including Truck 50, Squad 361, Rescue 328, Medic 247, Battalion 555, and Chief 273, had already managed to control and extinguish the flames. The roof had been opened up to access the fire, which had been primarily contained to the walls and attic.
The units involved were Engine 84, Truck 50, Squad 361, Rescue 328, Medic 247, Battalion 555, and Chief 273. Additionally, RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) members from Units 3210 and 249 were on standby.
[Attached are several photos taken by Dan Shevlin at the scene. These images capture the intensity of the situation as firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze. The first photo shows the initial response, with Engine 84 actively addressing the fire. The second image highlights the teamwork between multiple units as they work together to ensure the situation is under control. The third picture captures the firefighters operating on the roof, opening it up to fight the fire from above. The fourth and fifth photos depict the aftermath, showcasing the damage caused by the fire and the efforts made to mitigate the situation.]
These images provide a glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by the Chicago Fire Department during this incident. Despite the early morning hour, the crew remained focused and efficient in their mission to protect life and property.
