Chicago Still & Box alarm fire, 1-2-18 (more)
It was a very cold day, with temperatures in the single digits. When I got the call, companies responded to what I initially thought was a kitchen fire that had extended into hidden spaces. I arrived about 10 minutes after the initial report and found that crews had already been ordered out of the building. It was interesting to watch the small wheelbase snorkel unit maneuver into a tight space at the front of the structure. The presence of large trees made it extremely difficult for any aerial equipment to access the area. It was definitely a tough situation for everyone involved.
