On November 25, 2022, around noon, the Bolingbrook Fire Department received an emergency call about a vehicle that had fallen into the water at the Whalon Lake boat launch. Multiple 911 callers reported that there might be two people inside the vehicle. By the time the firefighters arrived, the driver had already managed to get out of the vehicle and was rescued by the police before the fire department’s arrival. However, when the Bolingbrook FD reached the scene, they discovered the vehicle completely submerged approximately 100 feet offshore. A dive team was quickly mobilized, and divers from MABAS 16 departments were dispatched to search the area. They eventually located the submerged vehicle. Both a boat and a drone were deployed, along with sonar technology, to assist in the search efforts. After about three hours of intense work following the firefighters’ arrival, the vehicle was finally pulled out of the water. Thankfully, no additional occupants were found inside the car. The driver was subsequently transported by the Naperville FD to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
