Polyester film companies will face new challenges

<

Frost & Sullivan, a well-known US-based strategic consulting firm, recently released the “Global Polyester Film Market” report. The report stated that despite the adverse effects of economic slowdown in the United States and Western Europe, global polyester film consumption will maintain a relatively high growth rate driven by China, India and other emerging markets. In addition, the rapid development of the packaging industry and the electronics industry will also promote the development of the global polyester film market. However, due to the loss of certain application markets, the ability to develop new application areas will be the biggest challenge for polyester film companies in the future.
Strong demand for packaging electronics Polyester film is widely used in the packaging industry. In the future, more hard packaging will be replaced by flexible packaging. This trend will promote the application of polyester film in the packaging field. Vertical bags are highlights of the growth of polyester film in the packaging field. It is often used as a package for pet foods, detergents, seasonings, convenience foods, and microwave foods. In addition, the output of thermoformed packaging caps continues to increase, and polyester films with good heat resistance are expected to gain a larger market in this area. Other growth areas in the packaging sector include snack bags, meat boxes, cheese boxes and bags.
Electrical and electronic products are another major application area for polyester films. Polyester film has a good look and feel, daily appliances, electronic toys, computers and instrument panel switches and buttons are all using polyester film to make the touch layer. In addition, because of its excellent insulation properties, polyester film materials are often used as insulating housing materials for engines such as refrigerators and washing machines. Other applications for polyester film in the electrical and electronic field include cable jackets, capacitors, and flat panel displays (FPDs).
In addition to packaging and electronics, other applications for polyester films include industrial applications, imaging, magnetic materials, X-ray films, pressure-sensitive films, fluorescent films, and glass films.
Sino-Indian market growth is strong In 2006, the global production of polyester film was about 1.629 million tons, with sales of about 5 billion US dollars. Global polyester film sales are expected to reach US$6.98 billion in 2013, with a compound annual growth rate of approximately 4.9%. According to the statistics of Frost & Sullivan, the current sales volume of polyester film in the United States is approximately US$1.15 billion, which is the largest contribution to the global market; Japan’s sales are approximately US$1.03 billion, ranking second in the world; the third place is Western Europe. Its sales are about 860 million U.S. dollars. It is estimated that from 2006 to 2013, there will be a slight decrease in sales in the United States and Western Europe (in which the US market is down by 0.2% and the Western European market is down by 1.0%). The decline in the average price of polyester film in the macroeconomic recession and the expected future is the main reason for the decline in sales in these two markets.
The sales volume of China's polyester film market in 2006 was about 790 million U.S. dollars, ranking behind Western Europe. However, this market in China is still only at the initial stage of rapid growth. The rapid development of China's packaging and electronics and electrical industries will provide strong momentum for the polyester film market. China is expected to surpass the United States, Japan and Western Europe to become the world's largest polyester film market in 2010. It is expected that its market sales will increase to 1.62 billion US dollars in 2013, with an average annual growth rate of 11.4%.
The Indian market had sales of approximately US$310 million in 2006. Like China, this market in India is also in the early stages of development. The rapid economic development in India will drive the polyester film market to grow rapidly. It is estimated that its sales in 2013 will reach US$900 million with an average annual growth rate of 15.5%.
Strengthening research and development to meet challenges The continuous growth of the global polyester film market, especially the rapid economic development of emerging countries, has provided tremendous opportunities for related manufacturers. At the same time, other factors also make it face some challenges.
In the past five years, the use of polyester film has begun to shrink in some areas. The most typical example is that the magnetic film material and the imaging film gradually withdrew from the market due to the development of electronic technology, which resulted in a rapid decline in the market sales of polyester film in these two fields. To this end, some manufacturers are stepping up the performance of polyester films to further replace other types of films and develop new applications. For example, DuPont Teijin teamed up with Logic Plastics to develop a flexible organic dynamic matrix display whose bottom plate is made of polyester film material. In addition, Toray, DuPont Teijin and Mitsubishi have included polyester film for liquid crystal displays and plasma displays as targets for future product research and development, and targeted development of new products to improve the performance of related products. Other new applications that have been developed or are under development include shrink labels, antibacterial films, vacuum packaging sealing films, and infrared absorption films.
For manufacturers in the Asia-Pacific region, the excess capacity of polyester film may be another major challenge that needs to be faced. In 2006, China’s production capacity has reached 400,000 tons, with more than 10 production lines under construction, and the market demand is only 290,000 tons. Although the Chinese market is growing rapidly, the growth rate of production capacity exceeds the growth rate required by the market, which intensifies the contradiction of supply exceeding demand. The Indian market's surplus capacity in 2006 was about 50,000 tons. Although the production capacity of Korean polyester film has not increased further in the past two years, the overcapacity is still obvious. Although some of the excess capacity can be alleviated through exports, most manufacturers have to reduce output by reducing the operating rate.
The anti-dumping policies of the United States and other EU countries have restricted the entry of polyester film products into these markets, which has exacerbated the overcapacity situation of polyester film manufacturers in Asia Pacific countries. In addition, producers face pressures such as rising raw material prices, increased competition, and more stringent environmental protection requirements.

Centrifugal Compressor

The working principle of the centrifugal compressor is to work on the gas through the impeller, in the flow channel of the impeller and the diffuser, using the centrifugal pressure boosting effect and the deceleration and pressure expansion effect, the mechanical energy is converted into the pressure energy of the gas.
