Prospect Heights history

<

Deputy Chief Drew Smith had this to say: --- *Handwritten note scrawled on a weathered piece of paper:* "Here's a glimpse into the past—some pages from an old Prospect Heights logbook. A lot of departments still maintain handwritten logs, but for some reason, this tradition stopped here by 1981. The first recorded fire incident was by Captain Ron Olsen, who later became a deputy chief. He eventually retired from that position and now serves as a part-time fire inspector for the PHFD. Ronnie—Chief Olsen, as he's known now—also wrote the second entry. There are more entries from Lieutenant Warren Lippert and Captain Norm Bittner. Interestingly, it seems like around November 1, 1971, the PHFD adopted the Code 1, 2, 3, 4 system, which is widely used today. I think we can trace the origins of this system back to the Elk Grove Village Fire Department. -Lt. Lippert's son, Dean Lippert, retired as a firefighter from Arlington Heights. Funny how these things connect." *Another hastily scribbled note underneath:* "Attached are photos of the actual logbook pages. They’re pretty faded, but you can still make out the details. It’s fascinating to see how things were done back then compared to now. Hope this gives everyone a better understanding of where we came from." *Below the notes, there are six blurry images of the logbook pages, each slightly tilted, as if someone had just snapped them with their phone or camera. The handwriting varies in size and neatness, suggesting different authors at different times.* --- *(Note: Some parts of the text are smudged or have ink stains, adding to the authenticity of the document.)*
