Prospect Heights history

Hey everyone,
I recently stumbled upon some pages from an old Prospect Heights logbook. A lot of departments still use handwritten logbooks, but here in Prospect Heights, they stopped doing that by 1981. The first recorded fire incident was written down by Captain Ron Olsen, who later got promoted to deputy chief. He eventually retired from that position but is still actively involved with the PHFD as a part-time fire inspector.
Chief Olsen also made the second entry in the logbook. After him, there are more entries from Lieutenant Warren Lippert and Captain Norm Bittner. Interestingly, it seems like around November 1, 1971, the PHFD started using the Code 1, 2, 3, 4 system that many fire departments adopt. I think this system originally came from the Elk Grove Village Fire Department.
Take a look at these photos of the logbook pages—I snapped them just now while going through some old files. They give a real sense of how things were back then. Lt. Lippert’s son, Dean Lippert, is actually a retired firefighter from Arlington Heights. It's amazing to see how these records connect people across generations.

These pages really bring the past alive for me. There’s something special about holding onto these physical records, even if digital ones are easier to manage nowadays. Anyway, hope you find this as interesting as I do!
Best,
Drew
