Spiral Sand Water Separator
Spiral sand water separator is specifically designed for grit chambers in sewage treatment plants. The spiral sand water separator is installed at an angle between 20° to 30°. A mixture of sand and water enters the tank through the inlet pipe. Due to gravity, heavier particles such as sand settle at the bottom of the spiral groove. As the screw rotates, these particles are gradually lifted along the inclined groove. Once they rise above the liquid surface, they continue moving forward, allowing the water to drain back into the tank. The sand becomes drier as it reaches the discharge port and falls into a conveyor belt by gravity. The clarified supernatant exits through the drainage outlet, completing the sand-water separation process.
The equipment consists of several key components: a non-axial screw, a liner strip, a U-shaped trough, a water tank, guide plates, an outlet weir, and a drive mechanism. The sand and water mixture is fed into the top of the water tank, where the heavier particles settle at the bottom of the groove. The rotating screw then lifts these particles along the inclined trough. After exiting the liquid level, the sand is fully dehydrated before being discharged into a sand collection bin. The separated water flows out through the overflow outlet and is directed to a settling tank for further processing.
