Working fire in Buffalo Grove, 1-5-20
On Sunday night, January 5, 2020, firefighters from Buffalo Grove were dispatched to Dengeos Restaurant located at 195 W. Dundee Road after reports of a fire. Witnesses and police observed smoke drifting across the street, and flames were visible through the trim on the C-D corner of the building. Smoke was also coming from inside, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4 for additional resources.
Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and began venting the roof while removing sections of the siding to access the source of the fire. They found heavy charring along the corner, indicating significant damage had already occurred. The fire appeared to have started in a difficult-to-reach area, making it challenging to control.
Multiple units responded to the incident, including Buffalo Grove Quint 25, Engine 26, Engine 27, Ambulance 25, Ambulance 26, Battalion 4, Car 208, and the deputy chief. Additional crews from surrounding areas also joined the effort, such as Arlington Heights Engine 4, Ambulance 4, and Battalion 1; Long Grove Squad 55 and Battalion 55; Palatine Engine 82 and Ambulance 82; Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD Squad 51, Prospect Heights Engine 39, and ambulances from Lake Forest and Nunda Rural FPD.
The fire was eventually brought under control, though the restaurant sustained considerable damage. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to ensure no embers remained and to prevent the fire from spreading further. Local residents and business owners expressed relief that the situation was contained and that no injuries were reported.
Photos from the scene show firefighters using saws to cut through the structure, with one image capturing a discarded cigarette that may have been the cause of the fire. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and vigilance in public spaces.
