IDC's survey found that Android grew to 78.1% in the fourth quarter of global production.
When Apple launched the new IPhone product, sales increased by 6.7 percent compared to the same period last year, which meant that its market share fell to 17.6 percent to 20.9 percent.
Last year's sales of Microsoft's Windows Phone platform increased to 46.7 percentage points, which increased its market share by 3%.
