Apartment fire in Evanston, 8-20-19
**From the Pages of the Chicago Tribune Online:**
Late Tuesday evening, emergency responders in Evanston managed to save four beloved pets—a pair of cats and a duo of dogs—from a rapidly contained apartment fire. The incident took place in the rear, first-floor unit of a four-story, multi-family courtyard building located on the 600 block of Sheridan Road. Thanks to the swift efforts of the firefighters, who promptly extinguished the flames, all four animals were successfully rescued during a thorough secondary sweep of the premises.
Interestingly, while conducting their search, the firefighters stumbled upon not just two or three but four pets inside the unit. Unfortunately, three of these animals required immediate medical intervention with pet-specific oxygen masks to help them breathe again. Thankfully, all four pets survived the ordeal unscathed, and there were no reports of any human injuries either.
As I write this, I can’t help but reflect on how these brave firefighters went above and beyond the call of duty. Their quick thinking and compassion likely saved the lives of these furry family members. Attached below are some incredible images captured by Tim Olk, showcasing moments from the rescue operation. Each picture tells its own story, capturing both the urgency of the situation and the tender care shown by the first responders.

These photos speak volumes about the dedication and professionalism displayed by everyone involved that night. It’s heartening to know that such dedicated individuals are out there, risking everything to protect both people and their beloved companions. For now, let’s hope these pets recover fully and continue to bring joy to their families for years to come.
Stay safe, everyone.
