CBM as heavy truck fuel Jincheng builds “energy Shinkansenâ€
Yesterday morning, a groundbreaking coal-bed methane (CBM) energy Shinkansen project, jointly launched by three companies from within and outside the province, officially kicked off in Nancun Town, Zezhou County, Jincheng City. This marks a significant step toward establishing a comprehensive CBM transportation and logistics network centered in Shanxi, with coverage spanning the entire North China region.
The initiative aims to replace diesel fuel in commercial vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks, with cleaner and more efficient coal-bed methane. By leveraging the advantages of high efficiency, energy savings, environmental friendliness, and low emissions, the project seeks to build a nationwide CBM-powered transportation network. The core of this network will be Taiyuan, connecting key cities such as Yinchuan, Shijiazhuang, Beijing, Hohhot, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, and others across seven provinces.
Initially, the project will introduce 100 CBM-powered heavy trucks and launch two transport routes: Xiaoyi–Lishe and Xiaoyi–Hejin. According to the implementation plan, this year alone, the project plans to add 1,000 more CBM heavy trucks and retrofit 2,000 diesel-powered trucks. This transition is expected to save approximately 200,000 tons of diesel annually and consume 300 million cubic meters of CBM. In 2010, there were already tens of thousands of heavy trucks operating on CBM within the province, signaling a growing shift toward sustainable energy solutions.
This project not only highlights the potential of coal-bed methane as a clean energy alternative but also underscores the commitment of local and national stakeholders to reduce carbon emissions and promote green logistics. As the network expands, it could serve as a model for other regions looking to adopt similar energy-efficient transportation systems.
