Offshore Wind Power Theme Investing: From Land to Dark Blue

<

Offshore wind power: new areas, new beginnings. The total amount of wind energy in the world is about 130 billion kilowatts. China's actual onshore development of wind energy reserves is 506 million kilowatts (50 meters above sea level). The wind energy resources available for offshore wind farms are three times that of land, and the total renewable wind energy resources are about two billion kilowatts. Offshore wind power has features such as high wind speed, sustained and stable wind resources, and large power generation. Under the background of reducing carbon emissions and transforming the mode of economic development, the wind power industry still faces a large market prospect. It is estimated that there will be 100 million kilowatts of wind power installed capacity by 2020, and offshore wind power will account for 20 million kilowatts when it accounts for 20%.

Offshore wind farms face the dual challenges of cost and the environment. Current wind farms are mainly divided into onshore (including tidal flats) and offshore. Among them, offshore wind farms are further divided into intertidal zones and middle and deep sea areas. Relative to land, the major problems faced by offshore wind farms are high cost, complex environment, high reliability, and supporting measures for offshore power.

Offshore wind power costs: approximately twice as much as wind power on land. The main costs of offshore wind power include wind turbines, installation costs, maintenance costs, support structures, power facilities, and project management. Compared to land costs, offshore wind power has higher foundation and maintenance costs. The proportion of wind turbines that accounted for 68% of land-based wind power has dropped to 33%, and the cost of foundations has risen to 24%, which is one of the major expenses for offshore wind turbines. Due to large environmental variables, offshore wind power maintenance costs have also reached 23%. Maintenance and foundation costs directly increase the cost of offshore wind power. The average cost of domestic wind power projects is 8,000 yuan per kilowatt, of which wind power equipment costs about 5,000 yuan per kilowatt. The construction cost of offshore wind power is around 20,000 yuan/kW, more than twice that of onshore wind power.

Offshore wind turbines: large models, direct drive is the trend. The main trend in the development of wind turbines is that the single-unit capacity has gradually increased and the fan unit structure has been diversified. Offshore wind turbines have a large cost, so the single-fan capacity of the wind turbines is required to be more cost-effective. At present, the mainstream capacity of domestic and foreign fans is 2-3WM. Because of the high stability, the direct drive will gain more pro-Lai, many manufacturers have begun to develop direct drive and semi-direct drive fan.

Investment Advice. The market is worried that the growth of the wind power industry will face declines, disorderly development, and difficulties in network integration. We believe that the current trend of clean energy development will not change, given the current energy structure and the task of energy conservation and emission reduction. 2010 is the beginning of the development of offshore wind power in China. The first phase of offshore wind power bidding will be launched in May. We recommend attention.
