Beijing rain brought fruits and vegetables prices two days

<

Heavy rainfall across most parts of the country has led to a significant price disparity for fruits and vegetables in Beijing, creating what some call a "two-tier market" scenario. Leafy vegetables have seen sharp declines, with some varieties dropping by as much as 50%, while certain fruits like pitaya have risen by approximately 20%. At Xinfadi Market, Beijing's largest wholesale vegetable market, reporters observed a continued downward trend in leafy vegetable prices. For example, artemisia stalks, which had previously reached 7 yuan per kilogram, have now dropped to 4 yuan. Garland chrysanthemum, once priced at 13 yuan/kg, is now available for just 5 yuan. Meanwhile, oilseed rape and rapeseed have also fallen significantly, from 4.4 yuan/kg to 2.6 yuan/kg and 1.4 yuan/kg respectively. The situation for fruits has been more mixed. The production of dragon fruit has been affected by typhoons in the south, leading to a price increase from 45 yuan per box to 55 yuan. However, other tropical fruits such as rambutan and longan have experienced slight price drops. According to industry sources, leafy vegetable prices are expected to remain stable in the coming week, but the direction of fruit prices remains uncertain due to ongoing weather fluctuations and shifting demand patterns. This volatility highlights the challenges faced by both suppliers and consumers in the current market environment.
