Yanshan Petrochemical Technology Reform Improves Polypropylene Plant Economic Index
After significant technical advancements, the first polypropylene unit of the Polypropylene Division at Yanshan Petrochemical has seen remarkable improvements in both economic and technical performance. As of the end of July this year, the total polypropylene output from the facility surpassed 130,000 tons, with over 40 different product brands now available. Material and energy consumption have steadily decreased, while the production of specialty materials has grown substantially from zero.
Since the successful start-up of Yanhua’s first polypropylene plant in July of last year, the team has continuously worked on refining and optimizing the technology involved.
First, they focused on eliminating bottlenecks that hindered high-load operations. Due to design and manufacturing flaws, the P301 equipment experienced frequent malfunctions and often caused line shutdowns. Through structural upgrades, the plant's operational capacity was increased from the original 16.5 tons per hour to 20 tons per hour, significantly boosting efficiency.
Second, the plant worked on integrating new processes with existing equipment through process optimization. Most of the granulation system used in the polymer unit's renovation was outdated, leading to a high ratio of by-products due to incompatibility with the new process. After upgrading the powder conveying and granulation systems, the granulation line achieved its highest load level in 30 years.
Third, the focus was on increasing the production of specialty materials. Leveraging the gas-phase process of the upgraded plant, the team actively developed and produced random copolymer materials. In the past year, nearly 30,000 tons of specialty materials—both random copolymers and homopolymers—were produced. The number of product brands now exceeds 40, and the proportion of specialty materials has reached over 35%, marking a major milestone in the plant’s development.
