This innovative integration brings together Flyability’s advanced indoor drone technology with Mirion’s RDS-32™ radiation survey meter. The result is a powerful tool that enables users to create high-resolution 3D maps of their facilities while simultaneously collecting precise radiological data. This allows for accurate localization of radiation sources within the environment.

The Elios 3 now stands as the first commercially available drone capable of conducting remote-controlled indoor radiation surveys. This development significantly enhances safety by allowing nuclear personnel to gather critical data from a safe distance, avoiding direct exposure to hazardous areas.

The new radiation payload comes with a dedicated widget in Flyability’s Cockpit app, offering real-time readings of radiation levels, cumulative dose, and measurement history. Additionally, the live map now color-codes the drone's flight path based on radiation intensity, making it easier for operators to identify hotspots during missions.

All flights with the radiation payload can be analyzed using Flyability’s Inspector software, which generates detailed reports. The data is displayed on a 3D map showing the drone’s trajectory, radiation levels along the route, and specific dose rates at key points of interest.

The integration was thoroughly tested at multiple nuclear sites across the U.S. and Europe. Radiological protection specialists and UAS program managers used the system for various tasks, including monitoring hydraulic leaks, assessing dose rates in critical areas, and evaluating the impact of equipment replacement on radiation levels.

In addition, the Elios 3 underwent rigorous radiation resistance testing as part of a project with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Idaho Environmental Coalition. The results showed that the drone can withstand radiation levels up to 10,000 R/h and a total accumulated dose of 4,000 R.
