China National Heavy Duty Truck launches fuel-efficient II engine

<

On August 17, at the workshop hall of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Jinan Power Co., Ltd., the company officially launched its next-generation fuel-saving product—the Fuel-Saving II Engine. This new engine has quickly become a popular trend in the industry, marking another peak in the ongoing fuel efficiency revolution. It is reported that the Fuel-Saving II Engine has already been installed on the Haohao series of products, and the company plans to integrate it across its entire product line this year. The Fuel-Saving II Engine is an upgraded version of the engine introduced earlier this year. Developed in collaboration with leading foreign design institutes, it follows the European mechanical development program while being tailored for Chinese road conditions. This represents a new generation of power systems with independent intellectual property rights. After undergoing 6,000 hours of continuous testing, the engine achieved a fuel consumption rate of 189g/kWh, meeting European standards. Field tests show that heavy-duty vehicles equipped with this engine consume more than 10% less fuel compared to similar domestic models, while their torque reserve coefficient has increased by over 30%. Wang Donghui, deputy secretary of the China National Heavy Duty Truck Party Committee, highlighted at the launch event that with rising oil prices, many domestic automakers have introduced their own fuel-saving solutions. However, some only follow trends without real innovation, making it hard for users to choose the right product. The Fuel-Saving II Engine, he emphasized, not only delivers real fuel savings but also outperforms other similar engines in terms of efficiency. Liu Wei, director of the Technology Center at China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, explained that the key to the engine's improved fuel efficiency lies in the use of the 8500 fuel injection pump, which replaced the previous supercharger with a bleed valve. This optimization enhanced the intake and fuel supply systems, significantly improving both power and economy. He further noted that the 8500 pump, developed jointly with foreign partners, offers advantages that the older 7100 model cannot match. After rigorous testing, the 8500 pump demonstrated lower external fuel consumption, reducing fuel usage by 3g/kWh and increasing the torque reserve coefficient by 30%. This results in better acceleration, climbing ability, and load capacity. Liu also shared a practical example: the Fuel-Saving II Engine costs about 500 yuan more than a standard engine, but saves 5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. For a vehicle traveling 150 km daily, this amounts to saving 8 liters of fuel. At current oil prices, this translates to approximately 35 yuan saved per day, meaning the extra cost can be recouped within a month. In addition to the product launch, China National Heavy Duty Truck’s production and sales reached record levels this year. From January to July, the company produced 35,385 heavy trucks, a 39.12% increase compared to the same period last year. Its market share hit 20.37%, while sales revenue reached 12.767 billion yuan, up 77.4% year-on-year. Profit and tax surged over 200 times, reaching 930 million yuan. Exports also saw a significant rise, with 4,764 units sold and $132 million in revenue—an increase of nine times compared to the same period last year.
