Hengchang PP device has become more efficient than ever
The Polypropylene workshop of Hengchang Polypropylene Co., Ltd., part of the Hengming Petrochemical Group, recently completed a small-scale technological upgrade that brought multiple benefits. The project not only eliminated potential safety risks associated with the equipment but also significantly improved product quality and achieved substantial energy savings.
This technical improvement, implemented in 2005, involved replacing the nitrogen (Nâ‚‚) heating system with a flash tank. The workshop utilized existing pipelines, added steam tracing around the original Nâ‚‚ lines, and reinforced insulation. Although the process seemed straightforward, after one year of operation, the results were impressive. Prior to this upgrade, the polypropylene production faced challenges due to poor raw materials, leading to excessive liquid propylene being carried over in the final product. This made it difficult to fully flash out the propylene, creating serious safety risks and resulting in unqualified products.
To address this long-standing issue, the technical team replaced the N₂ heating system with a more efficient flash tank setup. After a year of testing, the new system proved highly effective—ensuring complete flash distillation, eliminating safety hazards, and greatly improving product quality. Additionally, the project delivered significant energy-saving benefits. Before the upgrade, the process required multiple nitrogen replacements to achieve product qualification, often using more than three times the amount of N₂. With the new system in place, the product could be fully qualified without excessive nitrogen use, saving up to 6,000 cubic meters of N₂ per day.
This small but impactful technological transformation demonstrates how even minor improvements can lead to major operational and economic benefits. It not only enhances safety and product consistency but also supports the company’s broader goals of sustainability and efficiency.
