Hengchang PP device has become more efficient than ever
The Hengming Petrochemical Group's Hengchang Polypropylene Co., Ltd. recently completed a small-scale technological upgrade in its polypropylene workshop, which brought about significant improvements in safety, product quality, and energy efficiency. This initiative not only addressed long-standing operational issues but also demonstrated the value of targeted innovation in industrial settings.
The project involved replacing the traditional nitrogen (N2) heating system with a flash tank, a relatively simple yet effective modification. The team utilized existing pipelines, added steam tracing around the original N2 lines, and reinforced insulation to enhance performance. Despite its straightforward nature, the transformation proved highly effective after one year of operation.
Prior to the upgrade, the polypropylene equipment faced challenges due to subpar raw materials, leading to excessive liquid propylene being carried over in the final product. This resulted in incomplete flashing, creating serious safety risks and frequent quality defects. The new flash tank system resolved these issues by ensuring complete flash distillation, significantly reducing hazards and improving product consistency.
In addition to safety and quality improvements, the project delivered substantial energy savings. Before the upgrade, more than three times the amount of nitrogen was required to achieve product qualification. After the replacement, the N2 heating system allowed for full product qualification, saving up to 6,000 cubic meters of nitrogen per day. This not only lowered operational costs but also contributed to a more sustainable production process.
This small-scale technological transformation serves as a great example of how even minor adjustments can lead to major benefits when implemented thoughtfully. It highlights the importance of continuous improvement and the role of technical innovation in enhancing both efficiency and safety in industrial operations.
