Nine mandatory national standards for automobile safety will be introduced
According to the National Standards Commission, China is set to introduce nine new mandatory national standards for vehicle safety in the near future. These standards will cover critical areas such as dynamic side collision testing and the prevention of fuel system leaks, along with fire resistance performance in passenger cars that are "recovered from the tail." This marks the first time these specific requirements will be included in mandatory national regulations.
It has been reported that China has already implemented 100% positive full-contact crash tests in recent years. However, in real-world road traffic accidents, side-impact collisions account for approximately 20% of all casualties. The upcoming mandatory vehicle safety standards will introduce, for the first time, detailed test methods and technical specifications for side-impact protection.
Industry experts emphasize that the focus of these new standards is on enhancing occupant protection during side-impact collisions. This involves improving both the structural integrity of vehicles and internal safety features. According to sources, the nine proposed standards have already been submitted for approval and are currently under review by the National Standards Committee. Once finalized, they are expected to significantly raise the bar for vehicle safety across the country.
These updates reflect a growing commitment to improving road safety and reducing the risks associated with one of the most common types of traffic accidents. As the standards move forward, manufacturers will need to adapt their designs and testing procedures to meet the new requirements, ensuring safer vehicles for consumers.
